What
Project Genesis
Project Genesis is a specialized stream of the Global Internship Program offered to outgoing exchange participants at AIESEC University of British Columbia. It offers students a chance to focus their development internship on an issue based experience – HIV/AIDS. Through Project Genesis, exchange participants can partake in a unique integrated learning experience consisting of a series of Pre-Internship Workshops to advance their knowledge and mindset about HIV/AIDS. One of Project Genesis’ principle goals is to provide exchange participants with a training program grounded in a local context before they start their internship abroad.
Once abroad, exchange participants are better prepared to apply their knowledge in tasks such as educating school children and communities about HIV/AIDS, helping non profit organizations develop programs to combat HIV/AIDS, as well as providing support to groups vulnerable to the virus.
AIESEC
AIESEC is the world’s largest student run organization and is present in over 108 different countries. Its extensive international reach, strong foundational base and its many resources make up an international platform on which young people can discover and develop their potential to have a positive impact on society. There are numerous local chapters that operate through universities and other post secondary institutions. In joining a local chapter, students can be part of the AIESEC family and participate in conferences, internships, and projects. By taking responsibility and leadership roles, students will develop their professional skills and cultivate an international perspective while making many friends and memories.
A primary focus of AIESEC is the Global Internship Program, which offers four types of internships- management, technical, developmental, and education. Local chapters are responsible for raising internship opportunities in their city for incoming exchange participants, as well as recruiting and preparing students to go abroad as outgoing exchange participants. Through this two way model, each local chapter contributes to the strength and the success of the Global Internship Program.
