Jaewon Park

Hello people!

My name is Jaewon Park, and I was a PGen intern working in Serbia (Novi Sad) from April 25th to June 15th. I would love to share my experience since I had so much fun in Serbia!!! :D

First of all, I would like to say that I had a great time in Serbia, since I met really nice friends. Serbian people were really nice to me, and treated me so well (more friendly than I expected!). I never felt lonely there since so many people spent time with me, thus I had many chances to get to know more about Serbian culture.

A friend of mine has invited me to her house and cooked me some Serbian foods, and I was so grateful for that!
I also had many chances to become friends with people who are not in AIESEC as well, since AIESEC people introduced me some other friends from the faculty. The AIESEC connection is amazingly broad, and the good thing about it is that you can contact AIESECers in Blegrade or even in other countries as well. For example, if you needed help with your work or learning the culture, you can find AIESECers who know a lot about what you are wondering about, and get some help without feeling awkward.

I worked at the non-governmental HIV/AIDS awareness organization called Youth of JAZAS in Serbia. Through working at JAZAS, I had many chances to work with volunteers from high shcools and see how passionate they are about their work. I also facilitated some workshops and did some peer education, and to organize some street actions. While doing these, I could see many different views on HIV/AIDS, and felt like I’ve become more open-minded. I am studying Sciences and am planning to apply for education once I graduate, so it was a perfect chance for me to utilize my knowledge in the sciences and have some educational experience.

Sightseeing was another great thing about Novi Sad. Personally, I loved the environmentally-friendly atmosphere of Novi Sad and its greenness. Going up the fortress and looking down the city of Novi Sad was truly amazing, and I felt so awed by the view of sky, the city and the nature overall. There were also many parks where you can take a walk, and I absolutely loved them (especially the Danuve park). The city centre and the cathedral were also great attractions. The buildings in the city centre were not only historical and awesome, but also provide good meeting places. If you went to the town centre at night, you would see that the AIESECers run into people they know every 5 minutes haha. Also, there were great cafes and clubs, so those who would like to enjoy Serbian night life, feel free to wonder around the city centre with friends :)

I had so much fun in Novi Sad, and I really wanted to extend my internship, but unfortunately I couldn’t due to some business that I had to take care of in Canada. Too bad I couldn’t enjoy my summer in Novi Sad since there was a famous music festival called the EXIT Festival!
I would like to thank AIESEC and Youth of JAZAS for giving me great opportunities to expand my experience and the way I view life, and I hope that many people will join AIESEC in the future, and share their experience with us.

Thank you!

Sincerely,
JaeWon Park
