Getting involved in the global community: Project Genesis 2011-2012
Posted: November 1, 2011 Filed under: Uncategorized Leave a comment »Beginning of the new school year also marks the third year of Project Genesis!
Project Genesis provides internships for students to go on exchange and take initiative in the global community: educating people in those societies on preventing HIV/AIDS and reducing discrimination against those who are infected. Interns will have a great opportunity to develop their leadership skills including planning and organizing events related to HIV/AIDS prevention, giving presentations on the epidemic, and fundraising for organizations focusing on HIV/AIDS related issues. Participants will be educated on basic knowledge of the disease and will get training related to their specific job duties prior to going off on exchange.
This year, we are very excited to be expanding Project Genesis and building more partnerships to allow for more opportunities for students to participate in global internships related to HIV/AIDS. Students will have a chance to work with government organizations and AIESECers from other local chapters. It’s a great way to get involved, meet new people, and HAVE FUN!
The HIV/AIDS pandemic has had a long widespread and detrimental impact on many third-world countries including lower than average life expectancy, and slow economic growth and development. Taking Africa for example, it is estimated that almost 70 percent of the people with HIV/AIDS live in Africa, although only 10 percent of the world’s population reside in the continent. In South Africa, the country alone had more than 5 million people infected with HIV/AIDS and more than 300,000 died of the disease in 2009, more than any other country in the world.
Want to get involved in the global community? Want to make a difference in HIV/AIDS prevention in developing countries?
